Medora North Dakota

In August we visited Medora, a small resort town in western North Dakota. It is known for its proximity to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It now also hosts the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. This was a short two day stop for us to visit the library . We really enjoyed the Presidential Library and recommend it to all. I also went to the nearby Theodore Roosevelt National Park both mornings to watch the wildlife.

Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library reflects Roosevelt’s personal reflections on the landscape, his interest in environmental stewardship, periods of quiet introspection and civic engagement in his life.

The permanent exhibition is the heart of the Library. It tells Roosevelt's story the way he lived it — in order, from a boy at a bedroom window to a former president on the world stage — across eight chapters, from a New York City childhood to the Badlands, Cuba, the White House, the Amazon, and home again to Oyster Bay.

The experience leans heavily into AI. When entering you receive a token on a wristband and get your photo taken. The token is used to access various options as you move through the exhibits. Many of these will produce an AI version of you set in Roosevelt’s era. Above I contemplate the North Dakota Badlands by Teddy’s cottage.

Quotes are a big part of Roosevelt’s story. He had much to say that is still relevant today.

More wisdom from Theodore Roosevelt.

The building's earthen roof rises from a butte blending into the landscape. It is planted with more than 140,000 native plants growing in engineered soil, making it one of the largest native green roofs in North America. Visitors are encouraged to walk on the roof and enjoy the views.
